Oct 31 - Acorns

Galen got up on the roof of our RV to clean the solar panels and sweep off acorns because we leave Mountain View in the morning.   :-(    It has been a GREAT two months of time spent visiting and playing music with so many of our good friends.  We'll get to see some of our MV friends in south Texas this winter and others of us will stay in touch on Facebook until we meet again next September.

September 17 - Kathy

My sister, Kathy, came to Mountain View for a two-day visit and we crammed in as much of the MV experience in those two days as we could: Hanging out in the office first thing in the morning, shows at the Folk Center, and lunch at JoJo's with the gang.  We enjoyed it and hope she visits again next year!

September 1-2: Iola, KS to Mountain View, AR

We arrived in Iola, KS to visit Valerie, Jason and Shep in the middle of the afternoon on 9/1.  I must have been too tired by then to even think of taking photos because I never took even one.  :-(  We had a short but good visit and it would have been nice to stay longer, but we had already postponed our arrival date in Mountain View once and didn't want to do that again.  Plus were anxious to get off the road after a long summer of moving around so much.  In the past six months we have traveled 11,070 miles and spent $2,276 on fuel.  Cost per mile was 21 cents and average MPG was 14.10.  I know this because I have an iPod App that keeps track of such things.   :-)

We arrived in Mountain View on September 2, and spent the first couple of days recovering from five long days on the road and reorganizing and cleaning the rig after six months of moving around quite a lot.  But we are settled in, friends have been arriving, more friends are on the way, and we are having so much fun playing music and hanging out with these people who are so much fun to be with.   Galen and I are scheduled to play music at church on Sunday.  We've been hanging out at the Folk Center for free this year since Galen is considered an employee.  We've gone with friends to JoJo's for grilled catfish, other friends to Joy's Cafe,  and will soon be going to Tommy's with the gang for pizza.  Got my dulcimer restrung and had the frets dressed.  So many simple pleasures and I wake up each morning happy to be "home" again.

Mountain View - CD! - October 2, 2009

We finished up with the recording and mixing our first CD yesterday and I put the final touches on the cover today. Off to the duplicating service early next week.

Doggy Bag

This is what the journaling says in case you can't read it:

Jack and Mary sent us this photo today along with a story that is
so typically Henry:
Jack and Mary left their Whataburger leftovers from breakfast
on the beach in the bag, left Henry and Major in the car, and went
for a walk on the beach. On their return to the car they could see
Major looking at them and then looking at something going on in the
car. What was going on was Henry bouncing back and forth from the
front seat to the back seat. In his attempt to lick every tiny, yummy
morsel out of the bottom of the bag he poked his nose right through
the bag and got himself this hilarious (at least to us) predicament.
We are so glad Jack got this priceless photo before rescuing Henry.

Missing Henry

Henry wasn't getting better so was put to sleep yesterday. His ashes will be scattered at a farm in Heber Springs. I like to picture him running through the fields and breathing easily.

Perfect Weather

Weather today is gorgeous!

Galen is volunteering with clean up at the Ozark Folk Center which opens this weekend. Big festival downtown this weekend too.

I cleaned all morning and this afternoon dropped off two travel bugs and a geocoin. Here is a photo of the geocoin taken at the yummy Upper Crust Bakery in Austin. The instructions said the geocoin likes to eat in out of the way places so first we took it to the bakery and I just left it near the Skillet Restaurant. It should be happy now.

Little Henry was better yesterday but not doing great yet so we are still worried about him.

We are having lunch at JoJo's, on the banks of the fast moving White River, with Buster and Joanne. They have the best hush puppies there. I don't bother to eat them most places but eat too many here. Good grilled catfish, too.

Buster makes the most beautiful hardwood baskets and we bought two of them yesterday. We were amazed to learn how many saw blades he goes through making these works of art. He literally buys a gross of them at a time and is currently making his way through the second gross!
