The original Parthenon built on this spot was a temporary structure built for the Tennessee Centennial in 1897. By the time it started falling apart, Nashville locals had become attached to it so a permanent structure was completed in 1931. It is an exact replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.
It took from 1982-1990 to create Athena. She is 41'10" tall, weighs about 12 tons, and Nike, standing in her right hand is 6'4" - taller than Galen! She was plain white for 12 years and gilded and painted in 2002.
The Parthenon is located in this lovely Nashville Park.
