April 3, Grand Old Opry

A shuttle picked up Galen and about half a dozen others at the RV park and took them to the Grand Old Opry. I stayed home since I'm not a big country music fan. Galen saw Vince Gill and Son's of the Pioneers among others and enjoyed the evening.

April 2, Parthenon

The original Parthenon built on this spot was a temporary structure built for the Tennessee Centennial in 1897. By the time it started falling apart, Nashville locals had become attached to it so a permanent structure was completed in 1931. It is an exact replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.

It took from 1982-1990 to create Athena. She is 41'10" tall, weighs about 12 tons, and Nike, standing in her right hand is 6'4" - taller than Galen! She was plain white for 12 years and gilded and painted in 2002.

The Parthenon is located in this lovely Nashville Park.

March 31, The last of the Trace

The northern end of the Natchez Trace is in Nashville. Galen is holding a map of the 444 mile Trace.

March 31, Galen

Galen makes it to the big time!

March 31, The Ryman

I liked the Ryman much more than the Hall of Fame, probably because of the history.

March 31, Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame was filled with photos, clothing, and even cars that belonged to the stars. Add in videos and audios and you've got a lot of stuff to take in.

March 31, Honkey Tonkin'

You can't go to Nashville without doing some Honky Tonkin' on Broadway. Some of the honky tonks allow smoking and some don't. Some are really loud and some aren't. The only establishment we went inside was Legends where we listened to some pretty good music and drank - iced tea for me and Sprite for Galen.

March 31, Mike's

We didn't have room for desert after our dinner at Demo's, but our waiter told us about Mike's in case we got hungry later. He gave us good advice.

March 31, Nashville

It was scary for me to be in a store with so much country music all in one place. :-)

March 29, The Hermatige

The Hermitage was President Andrew Jackson's beautiful home, but exterior wasn't so good-looking today because of construction to repair a leak in the roof. Galen is standing in front of the site in the garden where President and Mrs. Jackson are buried are buried.

The wallpaper is original wallpaper custom made in Paris for the Jackson's.
