Jan 31 - Ground "kite"

This little guy was so cute. When the wind blew he actually moved like a crab.

Jan 31 - Tangled kites

This kite was tangled up with the octopus kite so they had to bring it down, untangle, and get it back up in the air.

We returned to the kite festival. Nicer weather and more kites. The octopus is 90' long.

Jan 30 - Quad Line Kites

Quad Line kites do amazing tricks, especially in the hands of a team like the one we saw today. It is as interesting to watch the team as it is to watch the kites.

Jan 30 - Kite Festival

It was cold and really windy today so there weren't as many kites as last year. We'll go again tomorrow. Galen, Donna and I took turns holding the cool ring kite. The owner and designer/maker of the kite was happy to have folks like us come along so he got a break. Hanging onto it was work!

I took this photo while out on the beach for a walk today. I am looking north on South Padre Island.

Jan 22 - Pirate ship

There was one gull on the beach when I got there with leftover popcorn from the movie. It didn't take long for more to show up and finish it off.

We walked over to watch a large ship coming through the channel and got a couple of sunset photos at the same time. The sunset/pelican photo was intensified in Photoshop so it wasn't so blah and boring. :-) The pirate ship is a local tourist thing.

I took my first SPI bike ride for the year today. This is a shot of one of the gift stores in town.

Jan 9, 2010 - SPI beach

I took these three photos on the beach this morning. The starfish, like so many have lately, washed up on the beach. I've never seen the sanderlings bunched up like this before but I've never been here when it has been so cold before either. Usually the jetty is full of people and pelicans, but no pelicans today and only a few hardy souls out there today. High temp was only in the 40s, but it was less windy.

Jan 5, 2010 - Dirty Al's Seafood

Although this restaurant is right outside of our RV park, we never made it there last year so we went early this year before the rest of the snowbirds get down here and it gets really crowded.


The grilled shrimp was yummy!

Jan 4, 2010 - On the road

This is a shot I took on the way to South Padre Island, which I altered in Photoshop. I am giving Project 365 a try this year. The project involves taking a photo a day for 365 days. Getting ready to roll, sitting in a truck for five hours, and getting settled in didn't leave me a lot of time or energy for photography.
