Feb 28: Chapel by the Sea

This is where we go to church while in South Padre Island. If you aren't in the chapel 20-30 minutes early, you are late and will end up in the library watching the service on TV instead of in the chapel. Three services each Sunday and they are all packed so a fourth service will probably be added on Saturday afternoon next year. Finding a seat next week will be easy because a significant number of winter Texans will be taking off the first of March. We've decided to stay until March 11, and hope the weather up north warms up. This photo came from the Chapel by the Sea website.

Feb 22 - Gladys Porter Zoo

Here are the first of my zoo photos from the Gladys Porter Zoo in Harlingen, TX. The digital kits I used to make the scrapbook pages are made by digitalscrapbookplace.com designer, Carole Harden.

Feb 21, 2009 - South Texas Storm

With all the news lately about the subzero weather and snow that the Midwest and east coast areas are experiencing, we shouldn't
forget that South Texas has its share of devastating weather also.

Attached is a photo illustrating the excessive damage caused to a home from a storm that passed through the Rio Grande Valley early this morning. It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take life for granted. See photo below.

The above was forwarded to me today. I normally don't pass forwards along, but this one was irresistible.

Feb 13: White Pelican

These white pelicans aren't rare, but we don't see as many of them and don't usually see any pelicans on this part of the beach. We especially don't see pelicans who like to pose like this one did.

Feb 11: Man-o-war

There were hundreds of these man o wars on the beach when we took our walk yesterday. I tried not to step on them even though they were dead but would sometimes miss some of the little ones. They sound like bubble wrap popping when you step on them. EWWWW! You don't want to step on them barefooted because the poison can still hurt you.

Feb 5 Hope

Our daughter made these necklaces for a Red Hat Society. One member of the Society has cancer and the rest of the group will have their photos taken wearing these necklaces and send it to their friend. The symbol on it means hope. Pretty cool!

Jan 30 - Long Ago String Band

One of our most favorite gigs is right here at Isla Blanca and as usual, playing here last Saturday was great fun.
