March 12, Edna, TX UMC

Our first night on the road we stayed in the parking lot of a very warm and welcoming United Methodist Church in Edna, TX. We had an excellent Mexican dinner at Palacio's that night and the next morning went inside the church to say thank you and take photos. Our second night on the road was quite different. We stayed at Coushatta Casino. There is an RV park there but it was full so we boondocked in the parking lot. It was free and is a nice safe place to stay with security roaming around all night. No, we did not gamble. We didn't even eat there because there restaurant allowed smoking. Ack! We ate leftovers and left early the next morning for Vidalia, LA.

March 6 - Dredgery

Dredgery is not a typo - just a word I made up to describe the dredging of the channel and what a mess it has made of this end of the beach - the end where we used to walk all the time but don't any more.

Bringing more pipes to the beach.

The stuff coming through the pipes. You can see why we don't walk on the beach any more.

March 3 - Bird Center

We finally made it to the Bird Center here on the Island - something we have been meaning to do for two months. There was much more to it than I expected and I think I may buy a 3 month pass next year. There is over 1 mile of boardwalks, a movie, a cool lookout place from which you can see the Laguna Madre and the Gulf of Mexico. The best time to see birds is in April when migrating birds come through but there were a good number of birds to see today. This colorful bird is a roseate spoonbill.
